8, 9, and 10

We have been super busy and slacking on our daily Bible lessons, but we purposed that we would finish the 10 commandments before Kaitlyn left and so we did..today. We had to do 3 today and take a little longer than we normally do, but the kids were very attentive. Lilah especially! She has been asking me everyday to do the Bible lesson and while we didn't have a whole lot of time to spend on a lesson, she would settle for a prayer.

Today we read and discussed the 8th, 9th, and 10th commandment:

Thou shalt not steal Exodus 20:15

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor Exodus 20:16

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, no any thing that is thy neighbor's.  Exodus 20:17

I always like to elaborate on the commandments for a few minutes and use examples that my 2 and 4 year old can easily relate too. So for "thou shalt not steal" I told the girls about a time when Lilah was carrying a bottle of shampoo and we didn't notice and she carried it right out of the store. Lilah was appalled and said "I stole shampoo from Wal-Mart?" in a shocked and concerned voice. I explained how she took it, but she didn't realize that it was stealing and how had we kept it and not paid for it that it would have been stealing, but that we took it back to the store and made it right. That even though she got it out of the store and none of the employees noticed and we could have easily kept it because no one would have known the difference, that God saw us. We don't live our life in front on men, we live our life in front of God that sees all things.

"Thou shalt not bear false witness, against thy neighbor" I took this one a little further than just against thy neighbor (in our case I used against your sister). I explained to the girls about lying in general and not only did they need to live a life and not tell lies, but that they need to live an honest life so they wouldn't have to lie to make themselves look good, or cover up things they didn't want people to know about, because once again, God sees!!

The 10th commandment was one that I really wanted to talk about to Kaitlyn. She'll be 9 years old July 30th and has a case of the wants. She wants everything in Wal-Mart, a castle, a hundred maids and so on and so forth. I just pointed out to her that God doesn't want us to want what other people have, because he has blessed us with SOOOO much already! Just because we might not have as much or as nice of things as others we have exactly what God wants us to have! I even pointed out how she was even more fortunate that most kids because she has 2 wardrobes of clothes here and her Mom's, two sets of toys one here, one at her Mom's. I hope that she remembers this and learns to be satisfied with what she has and not want every toy in Wal-Mart! LOL

Today's Prayer Request:

Kaitlyn: Justin that he would live (unfortunately I think we prayed a lil to late and he was already dead :/) and for Debra and her family that they would have a safe trip to LA.

Rachel: herself and Grandma Joyce

Lilah: her finger and Jaycee.

I'm going to apologize in advance for the bad pictures, seems my back up camera has decided to act up :(  Maybe one day I'll get one that wants to act right.
